FAQ

Common questions

Do we need ISO 27001 first?

ISO 27701 has traditionally been certified as an extension of ISO 27001, and most organisations implement them together. We'll confirm the right path with your certification body.

Does ISO 27701 prove GDPR compliance?

It doesn't guarantee compliance, but it provides strong, structured evidence of how you manage personal data.

How long does ISO 27701 take to implement?

If ISO 27001 is already in place, usually 2–4 months. Implementing both together typically takes 4–8 months.

Is ISO 27701 relevant for DPDP compliance?

Yes. It gives your DPDP programme a recognised structure, and its controls map closely to DPDP obligations such as notice, consent and rights handling.

Do processors and controllers need different controls?

Yes. ISO 27701 has separate control sets for controllers and processors. Many organisations act as both and implement both sets.
